Work Area

First of all you need some way to support your board. You can be creative here using open desk drawers, a pair of boots, build your own stand, or buy a stand. All depends on your budget and frequency of tune-ups.
The stand shown here was build using a wood shelf as the base, wall shelf brackets bolted back to back and attached to the base with L-brackets, a rubber-backed mouse pad cut-up and glued top-down to the brackets for cushioning and grip, and a couple of clamps to secure the base to a table, or in this case a cheap workstand.
Since the edge sharpening produces metal filings, and scraping the wax produces wax shavings, you don't want to work on the living room carpet. Somewhere like the kitchen, concrete floor basement, or garage is best. You also don't want to be barefoot because of the metal filings.
