helmet

More and more skiers and boarders recognize the need to protect themselves by wearing a helmet. It's no longer as rare to see people wearing helmets on the slopes as it was in the 1990s.

Apparently, snowboarders are three times more likely to suffer a head injury than skiers, and that collisions with trees are the most common cause. It just may be a conspiracy to keep boarders out of the glades, but better to err on the side of caution.

Modern helmets are warm, light, stylish, and comfortable. However, you need to have a helmet that fits correctly, it should be snug but not have any pressure points.

At many resorts, helmets are mandatory equipment in order to use the terrain park. Without a helmet, slipping off a rail and hitting your head on the pipe is probably at least a trip down the hill on a sled and visit to the emergency room. If you're unlucky, well, drool is unflattering. If you're really unlucky, hope they at least have a nice funeral reception.
